The Taliban is not a disciplined force like the North Vietnamese regulars who took Saigon. So if some Taliban guy wants to fire at an American evacuation helicopter, heโs gonna take aim and fire away.

The Taliban were also made to understand that if Taliban reneged, if one US personnel was hurt, he would retaliate with crushing force after first killing the Taliban top leaders. And they knew he would - he had already established his MO.
