No country has been able to “solve the Afghan problem”. Not the USA, not the Russians , not the British.

The USA has “had a tiger by the tail” for 20 years.

Whether or not this was a good idea, or how to make the best of a very bad situation, will be debated by historians and armchair generals for a hundred years,

The current disaster is because Biden had no exit strategy.

He is feckless, Congress is useless and Gen. Milley, the “Perfumed Prince”, is worse than incompetent.

His nomination was one of Trump’s greatest failures.

Ok, it’s understandable that some don’t like Bush. Yes he had flaws but what was America supposed to do? More people were killed on 9/11 than at Pearl Harbor.

Would it have been better to simply let ourselves be brutalized? And what if it happened again and again? Just sit back and say we deserved to be treated that way?

They're right, in that Bush started it and turned it into a morass that it didn't have to be. But it ended the way it did because our government is completely broken. President is a demented fool. Military more worried about their “white rage” and gender pronouns than successfully prosecuting wars. An intelligence community that has illegally turned its focus inward, chasing “white supremacists” and other alleged violent extremists who dare voice dissent against the new woke orthodoxy. An lastly, a Department of Justice and FBI that has acquired an affinity for kicking in doors and holding people at gun point for what amounts to misdemeanor, or even nonexistent crimes.

We should have crushed them all on 9-12-2001.

I see they are changing the narrative on this hot potato! Bumbling dementia Joe should have already been pinned to the wall of impeachment hearings.

I support breaking things and killing people when it is appropriate to do so.

Nation building is bad and we should never do it.
The idea that “you broke it, you fix it” should never apply to foreign policy.
Turning a chithole country into some kind of modern western liberal democracy is ridiculous and anyone who thinks that is do-able should not have a government job.

The night Bush announced the troops were going in (there and elsewhere) at a time of our choosing and all that, I said to my wife “No. this is wrong. Don’t commit troops. visit with bombs, don’t visit with troops.”

Pundits said “you have to have boots on the ground, you can’t rule a large area like that without troops there.”

Who would have said that night that 20 years later the place would revert to civil war just as the day the first soldier went in from the US? I would.

Arabs will have a civil war and fight with infidels every day, every year, forever.

Lebanon, West Bank, Syria, Pakistan and places in Africa. Only the ones defeated resoundingly are quiet.

Bush started it, Obama continued it, Trump tried to end it, and Biden just screwed the pooch completely.

Good summary. I was listening to a YouTube podcast hosted by C.W. Lemoine with several pilot veterans from the U.S. Marine Corps, Navy, and Air Force discussing the air war in Afghanistan, and they all said that the Rules of Engagement (ROE) changed dramatically when Obama came into office.

They said that in January 2009, JAG officers were briefing pilots on the new ROE, and they were effectively fighting with both hands tied behind their backs, and a lawyer waiting to pounce on a pilot that dropped ordnance that was less than perfectly targeted.

Interesting listen if you have the time to kill:

Biden (w/help from iman obamatollah) used the quick exit to hand the Taliban muzzoid terrorists upwards of $100+ million is US weapons.

The same obamatollah who gave the muzzoid terrorists in Iran billions in cash on a pallet in the middle of the night.

And it was Obama who drastically increased the troop levels there—I think to 100K from 15K or something like that. Like Vietnam was Lyndon Johnson’s war, in a way Afghanistatan was Barak Obama’s war.

Bush for having an impossible objective,

Obama for returning bad guys to the field from Gitmo.

Biden for making an unwinnable situation an avoidable, unmitigated catastrophe.

Our policy should have been “You have terrorist training camps all over the country. we are coming to destroy them. If you build more, we will come back and destroy the new ones + other things you value.”

We never should haven been involved in nation building.

The idiot Bush started a war that was unnecessary and unwarranted. Yes he holds initial blame. It was his family Saudi friends responsible for 911, not Afghanistan.

Thank you. People forget that Osama Bin-Laden was a Saudi hiding in Afghanistan. The 9/11 hijackers were not Afghans.

Sounds good, until you realize that Harris is what we get when that happens.

Saw a good article recently (maybe here on FR) that mentioned an important twist. If Biden is removed from office, Harris becomes president, and the office of VP is then vacant. The new VP must be approved by the Senate, but without Harris to cast a tie-breaking vote, the D@mocrats no longer control the process. That would mean a 'consensus' candidate, just to get 51 votes. More likely, the D@mocrats keep propping up ol' Joe, even if we end up with a real life version of Weekend at Bernie's...
