It violates the constitution. It won’t fly.

I was shocked when I read those articles in the constitution and saw that Congress not only could write laws that can dictate states’election procedures but that any state that does not follow the federal law can lose congressional seats.
If this is HR one, and it passes and is signed into law, I do not believe it will be possible for the American republic to ever recover. IMHO we can overcome any amount of incredibly enormous spending but not HR one

If this passes the Senate, GOP will never regain power in Congress again and they won’t be able to return to the White House. Kyrsten Sinema is the only Democrat who is preventing them from using the filibuster on this. Plus she gives Joe Manchin some cover so he’ll say no too.

Have you actually read the sections in the constitution that apply to Congress making laws governing federal elections in the states? They are shocking.

Yep, HR1 signed into law will permanently empower the rats and end the great American experiment in self-government.
The 19th century progressives will rejoice in their graves. Mission accomplished.

To: Jacquerie
The writers of the constitution surely did not have in mind a strictly political attack on half of our country when they inserted the ability for Congress to dictate election rules to states. The founders probably thought it might be needed if a state went completely out of line.
I wonder how many Democrat and Republican representatives were even in the House of Representatives when this passed. It will be even worse if they did it virtually.
All of this is possible because of the incredibly horrible sequence of events that gave two Republican Senate seats in Georgia over to the Democrats.

The “times, places, manner” clause is in the Constitution because states often did not send delegates to the confederation Congress. The fear was that states wouldn’t hold elections at all.
Also, the enormous power granted to Congress in the 14th Amendment was in safe hands and not abused . . . until the 17th Amendment.
