I wouldn’t be so sure. There is nothing in the Constitution that specifically grants the states exclusive rights to conduct federal elections without federal rules.

You have to understand that the anger behind this is that SCOTUS scuttled the same language that was embedded in the Civil Rights Act of 1964. It took 40 years for that to happens, but it happened anyway.
SCOTUS May not take so long this time.
This was the way from 1965 until 2013 when the supreme court suspended the pre-clearance requirement. They still left the door open for congress to “update” the formula on who’s racist.
That's a very quick 9-0 judgement against. The Constitution is crystal clear on this one. No wriggle room in the words.
