One of the tragedies about Legos is that in creating set after set of kits many people do not play with Legos so much as build models, which they don’t depart from. As a kid we had little of that.
I built wheeled hotels using the parts I had available, with stairs and furniture and big windows and suspensions and wheel arrangements that only a kid could believe might work.
And with a friend I tried to build a model of the Golden Gate Bridge, using those large Lego people hands to string up the cables. Thing took up a huge section of his living room floor.
Just two examples.
If kids my age had had all these fancy predesigned models Lego might have sold a lot more Legos, for them to disappear into models sitting on shelves in closets and never be used again.
I appreciate this. My kids of both genders did not like the animals and family and female characters being shunted into a separate pink and frilly aisle. It was stupid. Mix the characters - cute animals and girls should be in the same world with warriors and race car drivers etc.
