Well, I know people who did not vote for Trump because he’s not a decent person - or at least that’s what they think. My dad is the biggest Trump fan ever and he was disgusted by Trump’s comment on Powell - he doesn’t believe everything we say or do needs to be political. So, sometimes a little diplomacy goes a long way. Trump doesn’t need to vomit every thought out of his mouth.

I must agree with you that the timing was way off. Powell was not a Republican in any way but his accomplishments should be acknowledged coming from a poor background to Secretary of State.

Trump faces a backlash when he gets up in the morning.

Besides, the left will gleefully enumerate every perceived flaw when one of ours passes away, well before the departed reaches room temperature.

And yes, at one time Powell was an American hero, but the same can be said of Benedict Arnold, and they both betrayed the principles they once claimed to protect.

Worse than a RINO. Now that he is dead, can we finally learn of Powell's involvement with the My Lai massacre cover up. I have read he was an IG in Nam at the time. I have often wondered because Powell was certainly popular enough to run for high office, even President. But, he never ran for office. The way Kerry was “swift boated,” I wonder if Powell had something to hide from his time in Nam. Maybe he just did not like politics. He could have been the First Black President. Hard to believe he did not have any ambition.

Colin Powell wasn’t even a RINO; he was a full bore Democrat. He endorsed Obama twice over the hapless milquetoast Republicanism of John McCain and Mitt Romney.

John McCain in particular should have been a no-brainer out of sheer loyalty.

After that he twice again endorsed Democrats over Trump, all the while blabbering about Republican intolerance and extremism.

Still, I think Trump was needlessly abrasive in his statement. It reminds me some of his infamous tweet about John McCain, e.g. “His only accomplishment was to get captured by the enemy”.
