Miami Herald: DeSantis descending into "anti-vaxx Crazyville"

According to information collected by the National Center for Health Statistics and reported by the CDC, there was in the state of Florida a total of 10,263 deaths *involving COVID in August 2021. This was by far the greatest number of such deaths in a single month in Florida since the pandemic began, more than twice the number recorded in the previous worst month (i.e., December 2020, when 5,009 such deaths were recorded). Moreover, this 10,263 death figure for August 2021 was some 114% higher than the number of deaths involving COVID that Florida incurred a year earlier, in August 2020 (i.e., 4,787).

Last month (i.e., September 2021), there were 8,077 deaths involving COVID in the state of Florida, an increase of 299% when compared to the number of such deaths recorded in September 2020 (i.e., 2,023).

So, what has changed in Florida, such that there are more -- considerably more, to my eye at least -- deaths involving COVID now, compared to this same time last year? Perhaps the Miami Herald should consider committing journalism and drill down a bit on that question.
