Look at what has happened in what used to be wonderful places like Minneapolis, San Francisco, Beverly Hills, Portland (OR) etc.

Why take a chance on what could be the most important financial decision of your life?

(I have friends who bought a home in Minneapolis about five years ago in what was a totally safe area—effectively zero crime. They are now deeply regretting that move.)

I have a relative making a killing in Boston real estate right now....but I have zero confidence in the long term politics of that city or region.

He is smart enough to pocket a good chunk of his profits as he goes...playing with “house money” at this point.

If a Realtor lies to you, report her/him/it. Failing to observe the Code of Ethics can cost her/him/it a job and a license.

I've been licensed for 36 years and always answer those kinds of questions with an offer to direct the client to the appropriate sources of information. I explain that I can be stripped of my license for an answer that can be misconstrued as bigotry, even unintended.

Realtor lies are usually lies of omission, and they are usually not discovered until someone lives in the house.

If you have done your homework (and never trusted the realtor to begin with) it will be irrelevant.

Some realtor lies often are of the form “I have someone waiting to make an offer if you don’t”.

How are you gonna prove they are lying?

Sometimes the lies are things like “the area has good schools”.

What are going to do—have a philosophical discussion with what the definition of “good” is?

You get the idea...the safe thing is just never trust anything a realtor says and do your own homework on everything...you don’t want to waste your time “reporting the realtor”.

I remember years ago when I lived in the Houston area, a law was passed that required realtors to tell prospective buyers if a person had died in the house being shown.

I think it was a Texas wide law.
