“What total BS!! In the last 100 years the sea level has risen less than a foot (8-9 inches).”

Absolutely... Know what makes these break off? Too much added mass from accumulation.

Just like Avalanches...

Take all the Cargo ships and the worlds Navy’s out of the oceans and sea levels will drop. Those ships displace millions of gallons of water each. Look it up.

I agree with your central point, but the submersion of parts of Alexandria was caused by sudden earthquake subsidence, not gradual sea rise

Are you sure about that? Smile...

Yep, you’re right on target.

They fudged the declining numbers. The Polar Bear populace
is alive and well.

The ice in the Arctic Region has increased and is at a healthy
(whatever that means) level today.

As for the Antarctic, it seems to be experiencing a down turn
right now, but these things are cyclical.

The ‘woe is me’ folks need watching for their own well
being.

“Popular Science?”

Or an “ELF” rag?

The Earth’s climate has been changing for 2 billion years, and there is absolutely nothing humans can do about it.

Popular Science now needs to donate to FReeRepublic for that environment class.

50 billion tons of ice per year! That works out to .005 inches of sea level rise. If that’s 4% of the total sea level rise, then the total sea level rise per year is... 0.12 inches. Or 12 inches per century.

Now, if you think the fact that this melting glacier is only 4% of ocean-water rising, you might think that there is a total of 25 times more melting glacier out there, right? Wrong. Most of global sea-level rise — if there is any global warming — is adiabatic. The ocean water expands with heat, just like the fluid in a thermometer. If the Earth really has warmed up a whole half of a degree, then that accounts for nearly all of the rest of sea level rise.

“Then sea level rise must be WORSE than a foot a century!” you wrongly surmise. No, all the sea ice and ice shelves in the world could melt and the ocean level would rise ZERO inches. When ice floating on the ocean melts, its volume decreases by exactly the same proportion of the ice that sticks up above the water. The fact that a given weight of ice takes up more space (or, in other words, is less dense) is why any ice floats above the water at all.

THIS glacier is not typical for Antarctica. Most ice in Antarctica would need to warm up by 100 degrees or more to melt.

“The melting is caused by volcanic activity under the ice - NOT any so-called global warming.”

You beat me to it.

No, “they” are not that stupid. “They” just think we are.

"...it could lead to even more sea level rise, up to 10 feet,
if it draws the surrounding glaciers with it.”

Don't laugh - those are TALL glaciers - I mean, thier peaks reach a
third of the way to the Moon!

Okay - NOW you can laugh.
