Yes, they tried to do that, but to me, Meryl Streep’s president character was more reminiscent of Hillary Clinton, and her son, played by Jonah Hill, was a virtual clone of Hunter Biden.
That was my reaction as well. My son & I started watching it because the premise had the possibility of being a good Sci-Fi drama, but continued watching it just to see how incredibly bad a movie it was. Lame Republican-bashing aside, we were surprised that high-profile actors would lend their names to such a poorly-constructed, amateurish movie (numerous holes in the plot, unanswered questions, etc).

State leaders didn't control the weather to stop this from happening. Meanwhile, the roads fall apart and garbage piles up at homeless encampments. A comet would clean up the mess.

Through your eyes. The digs at Trump and republicans were clumsy and hard to miss. They attacked Trump as THEY see him. Big rallies with throngs of rednecks, the ball cap, rejecting science, only caring about his popularity, dumb, corrupt, incompetent, etc. What the director fails to grasp is how REAL people see Trump, and conversely, how we see Hillary and the left.
It was just a stupid movie, period, regardless of what they were trying to do.
