I don’t know about California, but in Michigan you can lose half of your homestead property tax exemption by having a non-family member stay in your home and pay even the most modest consideration (like pay part of the utilities).
If they invite them in, it will take the legal system to remove them. In certain states after a guest has been there any length of time, you have to give them vacate notice and they can fight it.

Oh, I don’t doubt they’d do it. Maybe in the form of a steep tax so that Pelosi and her friends can afford to avoid taking in a homeless person. Then all the California libs can brag about their virtue and compassion.
Given the things I’ve seen in the past 2 years, I don’t rule out much of anything.

Two doors down from my mom, the folks took in a homeless woman, briefly. One day she came back, and asked for “one more night.” In the middle of the night, she unlocked the door, and they cleaned the people out.
