Wouldn’t bother me if we were.
“Putin sees NATO’s expansion as an existential threat, and the prospect of Ukraine joining the Western military alliance a ‘hostile act’
~~~
I call bull.
It’s convenient to take that stance to justify your aggressive counter expansion, but if Putin really thought NATA was a serious threat to him and Russia, he wouldn’t take provocative military actions.
So, while territorial expansion may have strategic advantages, such as having a larger buffer between foreign states and your capital, it also means you have more territory to defend, and your borders are closer to foreign states that you identify as potentially unfriendly.
It doesn’t make sense at it’s core. It’s an excuse. They believe NATA being closer is a threat because they want to believe it.
NATO*
I did it twice. I blame lack of coffee
And Putin needs to remember that Xi has a map of the Middle Kingdom from the 1700’s that shows half of Siberia is Chinese. Then the Europeans began to interfere in China. Xi wants China back to being the Middle Kingdom. China is not Russia’s friend in the 100 yr plan.
True...I forgot the ‘04 Russians...
Eh, don’t go by this site on that. A lot (more than half I think) of posters on here said that an invasion was impossible and disinformation.
Our memories of WWII take a certain cast based on how late we entered it in Europe and what you might say was our fairly good “won and lost” record in battle once we found our feet (i.e., after the events of December 1941).
Russia was not at all prepared for Hitler’s onslaught and ended up losing 30 million souls in WWII. Say what you will about the need to keep the Bear weak, but Russia is entitled to its own theories about what constitutes sound geopolitical strategy and deterrence of hostile military action in a post-WWII world.
"Suicide is painless"
“...Ukraine will never go back to the Russian sphere”
Really? As of today, Putin is sending a delegation for Ukraine’s terms of surrender. After a 24 hour invasion, it seems Ukraine is already under the Russian sphere.
So you are proposing we fight a two front war, then?
We’re at everything the RATs projected about Trump becoming POTUS...everything.
“...but Russia is entitled to its own theories about what constitutes sound geopolitical strategy and deterrence of hostile military action in a post-WWII world.”
Yes, but they aren’t really theories, they are delusions of grandeur about a Soviet imperialism they can never get back. Putin is the worst thing that could happen to Russia. Over the long term, he will make Russia weaker.
They will expend blood and treasure for Ukraine and not be able to hold it or keep their puppets in power.
I feel bad for the people of Ukraine, but Russia had done their dirty deed. Russia will pay an economic price and eventually a political price when they leave.
Biden will be labeled as the loser of the new Sudetenland, which he will never live down.
No. Cause we’re not going to do anything about it.
To claim that the Chinese and Russians are more our enemies than the Leftists in the is country is outrageous. Think about this, the Left in this country effectively wants no borders, is morally degenerate, and has a corrupt “lock” on the electoral process (insuring that those who are “in the club” get elected to major seats of power). All this focus on “foreign evils” is nothing more than Neo-Con distraction.
“We are closer to Armageddon.”
That has to be true, but even though closer, it could still be a thousand years away.
“Really? After a 24 hour invasion, it seems Ukraine is already under the Russian sphere.”
Dumb frucking Russians think they can hold it?
They cannot hold it and their puppets will be thrown out.
Putin has shown his hand as a reckless despot for nothing.
“So you are proposing we fight a two front war, then?”
No. Apparently, you are. We are not fighting the Russians, but letting them over extend and weaken themselves.
To allow Russia to get stronger, guarantees we will have to fight a two front war. China will do nothing until Russia can help them.
Does sea power mean anything in 2022 when your enemy can vaporize your fleets?
Most European countries contribute very few troops to NATO, it will all fall on us with some help from the Brits.
