We have more aircraft carrier power in our Amphibious fleet (F35 capable) than China and Russia have. (This excludes the 11 big boys)

We are fine. Since Trump upped the ante on hypersonics, we will catch China fast, in that regard.

Sounds to me that a final decision on excluding Ukraine and Georgia from NATO has already been taken.

It’s all over but the cryin’.

No need for Trump to make it a campaign plank as long as he goes limp and changes the subject every time anyone brings up the notion of those countries joining NATO.

If he’s smart and politically savvy, abd we know he is, he won’t allow himself to be pressed unduly on the issue, or be boxed in so as to be forced to express anything bordering on support for further eastward expansion of NATO. This is how he’ll make his policy position known. By silence, a total absence of enthusiasm, changing the subject, and deriding those who do support eastward NATO expansion.

Best comment I’ve read in a month.

The major countries weren’t broke back then, having been on a gold standard. The “we can’t afford to go to war” statements back then had to do with losing profitable trading relationships. In that sense, I agree with you. However, how do you pay to build the tanks, planes and ships necessary to fight a world war with a currency that is on the brink of collapse because we’ve been spending more than we earn for the last 50 years?

That’s exactly what I said. A good defensive coordinator doesn’t show his coverage early.

No reason for Trump to Appease and give the Russians that or anything. Trump is savvy and is way ahead of the game.

But, it’s not over for Russia. They have no endgame that works here. They won’t stay in Ukraine. Their puppets will be deposed in time. Putin has to get out or he will pay a steeper price of a Ukrainian insurgency.

It isn't a matter of dealing with their carrier power which is easily dealt with by submarine and air-power.

Our carriers are there to project air power from the sea and the problem is protecting them from long range hypersonic missile attack while still being able to conduct strike operations.

It's not a sure fire thing and if you had paid attention, both Russia and China have developed tactical nukes as well.

I am not a defeatest here. But we need to concentrate on our domestic econopmic strength, define who our real allies are and evolve the force to deal with that, not squandering resources on low tech options for ground combat in the deserts of the middle east.

Well, which is it…is Russia getting weaker or stronger by invading Ukraine?

“The end game for Russia in Ukraine will likely weaken Russia. They cannot hold Ukraine and their puppets will eventually be overthrown. Ukraine will never go back to the Russian sphere.”

I’ve said before, that Russia will win the invasion, but lose the occupation; and it will likely cost Putin his “throne.”

Weaker. They cannot hold Ukraine and any puppets will be temporary and eventually deposed.

The full version of this view is attributable to one of the most clear and cogent books ever written on US strategy by a Navy Rear Admiral who fought in WWII.

Even great modern strategists cite this book.

“NATO* I did it twice. I blame lack of coffee”

I noticed that you said NATA. That is exactly how the Russian foreign minister referred to NATO.

And an air power, and a nuclear power, and a space power, and a marine invasion power, but yes...not an Asian land power.

Link doesn't work. Try this Rise of the Neocons.

The neocon fallacy is an extension of the fallacy of deference to administrative "expertise" in the US - the experts in Washington know what's best for all of us. It doesn't sell in Texas and it sure didn't sell in Iraq especially after the geniuses decided de-ba'athification [deprecation of the Iraqi leadership and professional and middle classes] was in the best interests of the future of Iraq. It gave us the insurgency among other ills.

It also demonstrated that we were bereft of any actual strategy for Iraq other than get Sadam out, which turned out not to be a strategy worth a plugged nickle.

Trump needs to solidify his relationship with Melania by converting to Catholicism

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Melania was the one that proudly made the announcement telling the world that Donald Trump was the first president to enter office supporting homosexual marriage.

We need a leader that simply follows the Bible. The translation of that is simply accepting Christ as his Savior and following God’s word. And God’s word on marriage is that it’s one man and one woman.

...Which is all part of sea-power. We are a maritime trading nation with partners on the periphery of the Atlantic and Pacific. We want to be able to defend freedom of the seas and protect our essential economic partners. What happens in central asia is a contest between India, Russia and China whose overlapping spheres of influence dominate the region and illustrate the reason why no sane person wants to be an asian land power.
