“Entering into (eternal) life being cursed by thousands of mothers, Russian mothers and Ukrainian mothers, is not really the most appropriate way for a Christian — especially if he’s getting older — to prepare for the end of his earthly life,” Kordochkin said.
Kordochkin stressed the open letter was not directed at religious authorities such as Kirill, saying he didn’t believe “state authorities consult with a higher hierarchy before they do something.” But the signers, he said, wanted to push back on the notion that the Russian Orthodox Church “only has one voice.”
Kordochkin said some have complained the language was “not radical enough,” but explained any dissent under the current Russian regime carries risk. This is especially true for priests who live and work in Russia, which he estimated made up the majority of the signers.
“For any priest who signed it, wherever he is — whether he’s in Russia or whether he’s abroad — I think that he puts himself under certain pressures,” he said. “The reaction to any kind of specific protest is very aggressive.”
He added: “Any priest who lives in Russia who is signing such a letter — it’s a sign of courage. But therefore, when he does it, it is also an important event in his own life.”
I would not be surprised if Putin, seeing the invasion getting FUBARed, directed the church to call for a stop. This way he can pull out in a demonstration of fidelity to his church rather than bowing to NATO.
“Пошли, Брутин!”
Same number of syllables and everything.
1%. (There are 40,000 ROC priests, but I’ll round up, given how many are likely aged/infirmed.)
It’s a start. With the incredible pressures in the Church against bucking the hierarchy (I say this as a Catholic who sees the pressures in his own church), you certainly don’t have to reach 50% to show some sort of “majority agreement,” rather the point is merely to register dissent.
Western nations need to smash that church along with Russia.
Not in an information age you can’t . Perhaps we should pursue an internet version of “Voice of America”.

After Putin is removed, Russia will be divided up and managed by non Russians. They will be forced to pay war reparations to Ukraine and others.
Russians refer to WWII as “The Great Patriotic War” and laud the bravery of average Russians in fighting the Nazi invaders. But Putin neglected to consider that many of the grandchildren of that era’s brave Russians are now Ukranians defending what they now consider to be their homeland with the same passion. Meanwhile Putin’s forces aren’t nearly as motivated.
You can fool all the people some of the time and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time.

Do you know who made that statement? It’s commonly attributed to Abe Lincoln in a speech in Clinton, IL in 1858. It’s similar, but it’s not word-for-word what Lincoln actually said.
Western nations need to smash that church along with Russia.

Why?
Amen!
Putin needs to end the invasion immediately.
You seem to be saying that you want to destroy the Russian Orthodox Church.
Yes!
How dare anyone challenge the intentions of St.Putin!
