Saw a report yesterday that Russians were fleeing Russia amid talk of Martial law, border closures and military conscriptions. Said flights out of Russia were booked solid.

Saw a video this morning of Russians fleeing to Finland.

Makes me wonder if flights are being cancelled because international airspace has been closed to the Russian airlines. Or if Putin is trying to stop the exodus.

Because of denial of international airspace for Russian aviation?

My bet is Putin doing this, but could be both.

Any guesses on how many Russians that are here, with return tickets actually want to go back home now? I'd bet very few ...

This is actually because Boeing and Airbus have refused all tech support, and because enlightened western nations have started seizing Russian owned property anywhere they can. A jet might land and DC pirates might seize it.

Putin will definitely try to keep everyone in his jail. But the cat's outta the bag in Russia. They don't want to be stuck in his cold, grim bomb shelter world.

Specially not the Aeroflot girls...

Whadda moron that guy is. He had the potential to make Russia one of the richest, nicest places on Earth. They have it all: good looking smart people, massive resources, plenty of space...and the only thing the maroon can think of is to bomb his own people (since he claims that Ukrainians are Russian).

Complete moron loser.

They ran out of gas and most all of their leased airplanes are going to be seized on March 8 if they are outside of Putinist Russia.

Well said. You can bet most of those ladies are looking to leave Russia this weekend. Russia is going to be losing a lot of “talent” thanks to Putin.

Emirates is still serving the Moscow airports. Flights take longer since they have to detour around Ukraine and Belarus.

Or if Putin is trying to stop the exodus.

I think that is exactly what is happening. Reports also said the people fleeing were mostly younger, like 18-40, exactly the people you DON'T want leaving.

The average Russian and average oligarch used to think of him as Bad Vlad, who makes us proud of Mother Russia. Now they are calling him dumbass Vlad.

“Vlad, what were you thinking! Who needs this (Ukraine) headache !!!”

For both reasons and one more: Russia’s airlines rely mostly on Boeing and Airbus models for which spare parts and tech support are now unavailable. As unresolved maintenance issues accumulate, Russia’s airlines will soon have to reduce domestic flights. If the sanctions are on for an extended period, Russia will have less and less domestic airline service and will soon resemble a Third World country in which overcrowded buses and trains are the near exclusive means of long distance travel.
