"You might theorize that men found solace in dressing like their preteen selves..." So they were gay before they were teens? Sounds like some sort of liberal surreptitious programming.
Before I was a teen my mom bought my clothes. She knew I wasnt a girl. Boys dont generally play fancy pants and are in a hurry to grow up to do manly things when there is a male role model around.
The solace then is a celebration of too many mental moms wishing they had girls when no man was around.

I'm over 60, I can't wear jeans like I used to (Jordache, anyone?). But I wouldn't wear
those! Relaxed fit boot-cut for me, thanks.
Doesn't Obama prefer mom jeans, like this guy?...

You would have to be a pretty serious queer to wear something like that idiot on the right side of the picture.

When my husband and I ate breakfast in a diner this morning, I complemented an older gentleman on the suit he was wearing. I commented that most men don’t wear suits anymore.
He agreed and told me nowadays men only wear suits at their funerals. Then he added he wore suits so people would be sure to recognize him.

I own, and wear, suits from my collection of about 20. I have hats as well. The derby does well for me but every man with a car should have a newsboy hat as well.
I have several vests, all with cotton backs. No nylon for me.
I even have spats and two different tuxedos.
But if a man from that time were to look at me his jaw would drop as well. Beard? Are you a longshoreman? Tinted glasses? Are you one of those nuclear scientists?
What’s with all the air conditioning?
Are your top buttons loose? Are you going to bed? You brush your teeth 3 times a day?
The list of differences goes on. I’m not afraid of what the average man has become. It’s the 1 percent weirdo men that have me concerned

This is how “men” in particular, and people in general, have been dressing for decades.
Better called the dregs of society, or prison look.
The man shown is from Paris, at some fashion fest. So may not be the best example (dressing with advertising t-shirts and falling pants is the “tween fashion” going on 30 years now). I’ve never seen a male tween dress like that.
But I’m not enamored of the dregs/prison/childish look, either, especially for “men”.
Since the ‘60s fashion like everything else has been dumbed down.

Well that might be a bit biased because it’s Cary Grant, vs a “fashion” show which almost never indicates real life.

I love that 50’s style look with a hat and long coat and suit and tie.
I foresee it making a comeback.
I have been wearing that style a lot lately and THE CHICKS DIG IT because I’m dreamy.

Real men do not have to change with the seasons or the times. You can see them coming from a mile away and know what they are. Like God meant for men to look like.

My father was a very conservative dresser. Even on weekends, he'd wear dress slacks and button down shirts. In fact, the character Don Draper from "Mad Men" reminds me of him.
Whenever I wore sneakers as a kid, he'd disdainfully ask me if I was going to "play basketball". He hated sneakers with a passion.

“...nowadays men only wear suits at their funerals”
When I was a young’un everyone around me wore jeans, button up shirts and work boots. Typical farm wear.
The bankers, doctors and lawyers in town were the only men wearing suits.
If you saw a farmer wearing a suit it was either Sunday, a wedding or a funeral.
