What about defense, or special teams?
This is another nail in the coffin of the NFL.
The NFL is an oligarchy whose time has passed. Sports fans would be better served by a looser affiliation of teams/competitors like we have in other sports (e.g. boxing, golf, bowling, college football etc.). The league construct is anti-competitive. Obviously some cooperation between teams is necessary in order to schedule games, etc. But the NFL’s ability to impose rules like this, prevent other cities/teams from joining their exclusive club and thereby limiting the number of teams in order to maximize pthe rofit for those owners fortunate enough to be invited into the club, is the source of much that is wrong with professional football.
Not a fan of mandates, but...
Every team will just have an additional “Diversity Quality Control” coach, pay them $25k a year for a no-where job, helping out with equipment and laundry.
They’ll still be able to hire recent college grads with a degree in Sports Management, wanting to pad their resume.
It’s a win-win-win.
League can point to this to the social justice warriors.
Team gets a cheap hire with initial enthusiasm.
Recent college grad gets exposure to the NFL.
This seems blatantly illegal, but if it holds, it will lead to some pretty embarrassing feather-bedding.
