“It’s not who votes that counts,” Stalin supposedly said. “It’s who counts the votes.”

Putin is Joe 2.0.

It would be appropriate for Russia to position nuclear weapons near the border of countries that threaten them with nuclear weapons. But, following the Cuban missile crisis, we and Russia (then, the Soviet Union) decided against such provocations. NATO did not put short- or intermediate-range nuclear-capable, offensive missiles in the Baltic countries, and wouldn’t do that in Finland, except perhaps in response to something Russia does.

We have to remember that we are the sane ones, and Russia is a paranoid, third-world country with lots of nuclear weapons. Russia is dangerous and unpredictable, and may have a death wish. Our choice now, as it was during the cold war, is either to surrender to them or be prepared to defend ourselves from them.

Too funny! Russian Kaliningrad is already armed to the teeth, with both conventional and nuclear weapons.

As if the Red Northern Fleet submarine bases aren't close enough to Sweden and Finland and certainly well known to them...which are easily located thanks to wiki with map co-ordinates....

As far as nukes go: before DJT took office, no one know if US nukes would actually work. (This was repaired during his term). So given all the corruption in Russia, will their nukes actually work? Just asking - I don’t want to find out the hard way.

Maybe Putin will get whacked by his own people.

Sure - but keep in mind that (due to Murphy's Law, or simply the unpredictable nature of war ;>) it could make things worse, not better...

;>)

Let’s hope he was not planning to send them on board the “Moscow.”

Perhaps, perhaps not. Sort of the ultimate game of Russian Roulette.

Pooty has got small man syndrom. Time to call his bluff. But our problem is that the Biden administration has not got even one big dicked poliitician or military leader who can do the job.

I mean , if Boris Johnson. The UKs prime minister can do it, surely we can do it better? But most of the Biden team are deciding wherher they even want dicks or not.And so goes history, and the end of the dream of our founding fathers for the world.

All because the Biden administration cannot tolerate the genuine men of America.

I agree with your thoughts.

To me, we seem to be engaged in a one-ups man game, where our side believes the other side will fold before we will.

Events may unfold where nuclear weapons are not used, things calm down and the world go back to normal. But at this point, to me it looks more unlikely with each day. Our government is throwing more and more military hardware into the war, providing actionable intelligence, and now labeling Putin and his troops as war criminals. We are pushing for something we don’t know.

Why would Russia threaten Finland and the Baltics with nukes? The radiation would simply blow back toward Russia.

Last week I was watching a 1999 episode of JAG where the JAG crew thwarted an assassination by Russian HARD LINERS of President..wait for it... Vladimir Putin.
So it’s certainly possible that getting rid of Putin could result in someone who is either crazier than Putin, or as nuts but much more competent.

How the was has backfired is very unclear given that Russia is winning the war and that sanctions haven't harmed the ruble in the least.

We should trying to deescalate rather than taking actions that would lead to hot war with Russia or WWIII. Those that want that are truly lunatics that are endangering the well-being American and European citizens.

NATO was starting to unravel before the invasion. Russia has done them the favor of reminding them why it exists.
