Take Mastercard for example, which recently announced it will begin “linking employee compensation to ESG goals.”

Somehow, I don't think this will apply to executives. Originally, ESG scores were meant for businesses as a whole. Looks like the execs are passing the buck right down to employees.

Next step? Pass the buck down to cardholders. The CEOs, CFOs, board members etc will not be giving up their mansions, jets and yachts. This is the same as Tax the Rich or any other operating cost increases. The cost gets passed down to someone else and in the end, usually the consumer.

ESG = Environmental, Social, Governance

Environmental(better be green)
Social(as in Social Justice you white racist person)
Governance(don't speak bad about the management or government)

Why hold shares to begin with? By many metrics the company is presently overvalued. With the ESG policies a value destroying distraction its hard to believe that shares will grow substantially in value any time soon.

As long as they can show shareholder how that helps their bottom line, I don’t see a problem.

If they refuse to provide that evidence or cannot provide it, then, obviously, the shareholders need to SUE THEM.

MasterCard (MC): “MasterCard Fraud Unit. How can I help you?”

Customer: “Yes. I’m looking at my statement and I have a charge for Betsy’s Tiverna in Corsica for $2000. I’ve never been to Corsica. I think this charge is fraudulent. Don’t you guys usually catch this stuff?”

MC: “Yes sir. Our unit saw that charge. We researched it and yes, it is fraudulent.”

Customer: “Well, I’d like to have the charge removed and refunded immediately.”

MC: “I’m sorry sir, we can’t do that. In our research, we discovered the fraudster’s ESG score is higher than yours. So, in good conscience, we really couldn’t take the money back from them.”

Customer: “What the heck are you talking about?”

MC: “Based on their higher score, it’s obvious they are more inclusive in their business model than you are in your personal life. So we’re siding with them. You can boost your score by eliminating your carbon footprint, sharing your pay with the underprivileged and giving higher tips to gender confused waitstaff. Have a nice day.”
