While I certainly wouldnt rule out the possibility that Sniffy is up to something nefarious, I think your combined statements are more insightful than you may have intended.
Have you ever noticed how few members of our military carry a gladius? We lost the first conflict in space in...73(?). I would imagine that we have come a long way since then.

The United States Government has declared that it will no longer be performing tests of Anti-Satellite (ASAT) weapons. In a public statement during a visit to the Vandenberg Space Force Base, Vice President Kamala Harris confirmed that this policy has the primary purpose of setting an example to other countries.
This woman is unbelievably stupid and is a menace to America's security.

I vaguely recall that President Reagan worked out a deal with Gorbachev on this subject, to the effect that there would be no more
testing of "satellite killers" by either the US or the Soviets.
At the time, the Ruskies had successfully launched at least one anti-satellite vehicle, presumably targeting an about-to-decay satellite of their own.
The US had not yet announced our own ASAT development, at least officially.
But one never knows, do one?
