One of our biggest gripes = no standardized batteries, all different for different items; charging; battery life; weight. So of course a great idea is to introduce this to vehicles. Particularly when “up armor” added so much weight to ICE vehicles. So now more lift capability required for infill, another excuse to leave them behind….oh and you can add explosives to battery pack parts and create IEDs that produce a fire you can’t put out. Perfect.

Also - a big issue with hummers is roll over, especially into water. So what happens when a wreck/IED etc causes a rollover into water with a ruptured lithium ion battery?

I would hate to be the guys riding in the Hummer that ran out of juice out on the battlefield. I doubt the enemy will hold back for the hours it takes to recharge the batteries compared to the few minutes it takes to dump a few gallons of fuel in the tank to get back to base.

Not only is this obviously a stupid idea but it is a complete waste of money and resources.

On the other hand, it is maybe smarter than sending all our spare and best weapons to Ukraine to be destroyed so we are ill-armed for the next war.

A couple of weeks ago, my wife and I went to a Overlander expo. Overlanding is when you go drive off the grid in the places that camping isn’t usually done. Places that are off the beaten path and kind of inaccessible.
At the expo, GMC was there with an electric civilian Hummer. It was also outfited to go off road and overlanding with a fold up tent on top of The roof. I thought this was the epitome of the definition of an oxymoron. I said to myself “what mook would own something like this?”.
Not two days later, after I got back from the expo , I saw one of those things out of the streets in the city in which I live.
Some people....

Fine. Have an evaluation, but have a fair and thorough evaluation.

Will it be charged by a gas generator in the deserts we fight in?

What? No of coursed not - it will be charged by a portable solar charging station, aka the Sun.

I don’t understand how any of this horseshit ever gained hold.

Clinton purged the hard core, common sense military and installed toadies; Obama cleaned up on the younger guys that were in West Point during Clinton and installed politically correct gays, incompetents, and other like ilk.

Biden is capitalizing on their achievements.

A 5 gallon jerry can can move a hummer 2 miles down the road or at the very least off the side of a road to make way for the rest of the column. An electric will just sit as a diesel powered generator will run for 12 hours to get it a quarter charge. BUT hey... It is only tax dollars.

Just ‘play’ your stress card... then enemy will respect that while the Hummer is charging.

I predict that this will be a bigger disaster than the Sergeant York gun.

In the early 80s, I worked at what was then known as the Air Defense Board, the directorate at Fort Bliss that tested new weapons systems under development.

The York was the CG's baby, MG Jim Maloney was a fierce advocate of the gun, and it unceremoniously forced him into retirement. Instead of getting huge bucks working for a defense contractor, he was relegated to a desk job at El Paso Electric.

The test reports were all classified, they were quite "illuminating" as to the inability of the York to shoot, move, or communicate.

I enjoyed my time at the Board, my primary job was giving briefings to all the VIPs visiting Fort Bliss. They all wanted to see the new toys under development. I was the briefing officer for generals up to 3 stars and their civilian equivalents.

The CO handled the briefings for 4 stars and civilian equivalents, but I was there to answer any questions the Old Man needed me for.

It was a different time for the military. The unwritten rule at Fort Bliss was that those returning from Germany and Korea had at least a year of screwoff time. 2-3 days a week, a buddy and me would enjoy a 3 margarita lunch at a local cantina. At most, I had 4 hours of work a day.

The York as ahead of it’s time.

The level of technology just had not advanced enough for the thing to work.

It could be done today very easily......................
