War crimes arent tit for tat. If one nation commits war crimes there is no provision for the opposing nation to also commit war crimes to “make up for it”.

Many on FR who support Ukraine feel that Ukraine is fully justified in this approach and all of this is Russia’s fault.

Amnesty does not agree.

Lay down with Putinist dogs. Get up with Soros Amnesty fleas. Birds of a feather flock together...

In general it’s proper courtesy to offer one’s own history before asking someone else to offer theirs.

Mine?

WHCA & DCA
NAVCAMS Westpac

Navcommsta Puget Sound
USS Benjamin Stoddert
USS Tarawa

Honorably discharged, disabled vet.

Waiting for another so-called “patriot” to accuse me of laying down with Putinist Dogs.

Or, are they better described as pussy-assed, anti-American toilet scum and neocons? Certainly that is my preferred moniker for them when I’m not calling them pussy-assed chickenhawks.

While the Neocons here won’t want to hear this, this report basically CONFIRMS the Russian claims when they struck civilian targets and claimed they were being used for military operations.

As to Ukrainian claims to be exempt from war crimes because they claim to not be the aggressor, as far as I know, that exemption DOES NOT exist.

And the Russians executed tied up civilians in Bucha because?

“Honorably discharged, disabled vet.”

We have this in common.

I retired after 25 years because my knee wanted to stop humping it all over SWA. These days it bitches at me whenever I use the stairs.

I spent time on a couple Navy ships/boats most memorably including the Ranger and the Toledo. The sub had the best food by far.

Got to see the USSR in 1987 and did some time in Poland in the 1990’s. Been to Belarus in the 1990’s and quite frankly loved it. Never been to Ukraine. Spent a lot of time in Germany but never had a reason to visit Berlin.

Made the mistake of seeing Paris in the summer and having the smell of urine permanently associated with the Seine. It kind of diminished the ‘romance’ for me.

If I needed a rifle for work I always deployed with a .308 that had been built for me by an amazing Coast Guard armorer. I have no use for the .50 and if I need a cannon then give me a Solothurn 20mm. It’s just a personal preference.

My side arm is and always has been a Detonics .45 and sometimes two of them.

That said, I got to see the Russians in Estonia back in the day and they taught me to hate them. I’m fine with the Russians when they’re in Russia but they’re pigs when they run someone else’s country.

And that’s my personal opinion based upon personal experience.

That’s the extent of what I’m willing to share.

You wish death on Ukrainians in a post based on a “report” from America hating Amnesty. How “patriotic” of you.

Do we have now a caste system? Am I 3/5 of a man if I didn’t serve active duty? Pete Buttigieg also served. Shall we anoint him based on his military service?

Back to the topic at hand: Amnesty has long given aid and comfort to near every America hating dictatorship on the planet. Including communist China, Castro’s Cuba and pinko wack job Venezuela. It should be no surprise they jump on the Putin’s Kremlin train.

If that’s where you want to stand be my guest. I won’t and other Reagan-America First conservatives will not be.

“And the Russians executed tied up civilians in Bucha because?”

The best part was that having all of the bodies lying around didn’t bother anyone in Bucha until 3 DAYS after the Russians had left.

(after all, there’s a reason that YouTube bans discussion on this)

Seriously? I only expect this level of bs from the clearly biased Russian commentators.

“You wish death on Ukrainians”

Proof you are a stupid fantasist.

“Am I 3/5 of a man if I didn’t serve active duty?”

You’ll have to be the judge of that.

” I won’t and other Reagan-America First conservatives will not be.”

You are not an America First Conservative. It’s ludicrous claim.

Thank you for your entry.

“...there are only rarely impartial reports even in the international press.”

But, as we both understand, there are hardly any truthful reports when they are made either.

During my years in the business I was in Yugoslavia and Libya and I can promise you you are being kind in your picture. It was far worse than you present. You might also have added the existence of locations in Kuwait during our conflict where all aged women were kidnapped and put into forced intercourse by soldiers trying to get them pregnant so they would be shunned by their own people. Brutality knows no level. I was part of the people that “freed them” back into no life what so ever as they were culled by their society after the conflict.

My problem with what IHL is trying to do is they are trying to convince the people that don’t play the game that these laws are actually enforced and people follow them and only the bad guys violate them. Manure! An example is the US senior NCO that propped up a dead opponent and forced his troops to take pictures with the dead opponent. That’s in direct violation of the Geneva Convention. So who are the bad guys especially when they translate it as individual acts?

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2019/dec/27/eddie-gallagher-trump-navy-seal-iraq

So the actual question is, since anyone can violate them and they are purposely misused and misreported, then what good are they other than they give the appearance of right or wrong but skip blame by half while lessoning the horror of it? Isn’t the brutality part that which makes war detestable? And ignoring that makes it easy and lowers us on the food chain.

Like Mark Twain said, “Man is the only animal that blushes...or needs to.”

I was in the biz in former Y and elsewhere. Who knows? Maybe we ran into each other. I made truthful reports, as did my colleagues. But it made little difference in how the media reported. The media reporting, as you know, was incredibly biased. It was like living in a hall of mirrors. One thing going on before your eyes, and before the eyes of your colleagues, the media reporting something else entirely.

The media reporting on Libya was a total joke. Reporting tweets from the Barbarians of Benghazi as if they were real news and trustworthy. The Viagra rape hoax was so ridiculous, but they breathlessly reported it. The photo of the blasted burned-out tank with the pristine Viagra box next to it was beyond ridiculous. I guess the journos didn’t play “what’s wrong with this picture” back in kindergarten like the rest of us did.

Some human rights organizations go along with the favored “narrative” and their reports tend to be rather skewed, to put it politely.

What good does it do? Well, there were times I was able to get the bad guys to straighten up some. We did save some lives and help some people. It’s far from working as some of the public imagine it does, but perhaps better than nothing. It’s more effective in some countries and situations than others. But war remains he!!. Yes, it’s brutal. It’s all about killing people and breaking things.
