Thank God nobody got seriously hurt, that there were no passengers or the driver of the bus that got burnt.
Even worse, they're pushing for EV school buses with this same battery technology. The "American Rescue Plan" includes something called the "Diesel Emissions Reduction Act (DERA) School Bus Rebate Program." Kamala has mentioned it in some of her word-salad speeches.
GM recalls all Chevy Bolts due to fire risk, says owners should park outside ( 50 feet apart from other cars ) and limit charging. ( watch them ).. not charge them overnight after two vehicles repaired in the earlier recall also caught fire.

Next EV in the lineup : Chevy Blazer… ?
EVs aren’t zero emission, even when they don’t burn. They have batteries that store and use energy provided from sources that produce emissions. And like any ICE vehicle, an EV that lasts 300,000 miles will go through over 36 tires made from guess what.
And we should spend that kind of money on a death trap like that?
How is this protecting the environment when they catch on fire.
Seems that the byproducts of the fire, the scrap leftovers of the vehicle, and materials used to put out the fire would cause more damage to the environment that the gasoline burned in a regular ICE vehicle.
I can only imagine what kind of chemical compounds are emitted from a fire with a lithium, cadmium, nickel, and ? base.
Have to dust off my old, (very old!) chemistry book. Not sure if lithium was discovered when I took chemistry.
The school buses are part of a new program—”Burnt Back Better”.

Electric golf kart fanbois will not be pleased by the replies.
I’m waiting for the time when an EV catches fire in the underground parking garage of some fancy hotel. The repair and cleanup bill would be astronomical.
Yes, the Li ion batteries have temperature sensors plus a computer chip monitoring battery condition. I’m not familiar enough with the tech to know much detail on this though.
Over time, insurance costs will decide if these are viable or not.
Think bigger: "EV Tour Bus causes conflagration at Sequoia National Park"...
****
No prob. To save the planet they will just declare an emergency and prohibit driving by anyone not on a government trip.
Ain’t that swell?
I'm not waiting for it but an electric vehicle fire, especially a bus, on a major bridge or in a major tunnel will be horrific.
Ooops!
Yikes! As intrigued as I am with this vehicles technology I think this might become more and more frequent.
RC aircraft are a hobby of mine and I use the lithium-polymer and lithium-ion battery packs exclusively. Don’t know how similar these are to ev cells but I know the hobby packs do not like heat.
