Really? The tractor is a greater invention than the transistor?

And no mention of the vegamatic or the Shamwow either?

I’ve long maintained that the three greatest inventions/developments of the twentieth century were air conditioning, Novocain and rock and roll. Life without these would be a whole lot worse for me. And that’s what matters. To me.

Nitrocellulose in 1845 by Christian Friedrich Schönbein

Guncotton was the first nitrogenated hydrocarbon high explosive and the father of all smokeless powders and high explosives. Nuclear weapons cannot be triggered without high explosives.

Nitrocellulose is the basis of celluloid which enabled roll photographic film, motion pictures, etc.

Celluloid is the first plastic used for things like billiard balls. Modern electronics is impossible without plastic insulators.

"The Greatest Inventions In The Past 1000 Years"

"In 2,000 years, the greatest thing mankind ever devised, I think, in my humble opinion, is Saran Wrap. You can put a sandwich in it. You can look through it. You can touch it. You can put it over your face and you can fool around and everything. It’s so good and cute. You can wrap it up. I love it. You can put three olives in it and make a little one. You can put 10 sandwiches in it and make a big Saran Wrap. Whatever you want. It clings and sticks. It’s great. You can look right through it.” - Mel Brooks/2000 Year Old Man

In 1772, John Whitehurst of Cheshire, England, invented a manually controlled precursor of the hydraulic ram called the "pulsation engine" and installed the first one at Oulton, Cheshire to raise water to a height of 4.9 metres (16 ft).

Self contained hydraulic rams on a 'Telehandler' made it so this 68 year old man can load 28 or so tons of bales onto a flatbed trailer in less than 20 minutes. Beats to pieces pitch forks and loose hay. Enjoy your milk and steak.

I find the most important inventions were ideas which ushered in fantastic physical things. If I had to pick the number one invention of the
last 1000 it would be the US Constitution.

The worst. All the sh***y ideas that led to Marxism.
