I went to San Diego in June 2009 for a 3 week contract. That extended until I had to return home in Sept 2014. I was commuting from El Cajon to the University City area for work each day. The traffic was a mess. I made a quick trip home to Pocatello and retrieved my Suzuki DR650 to ease the commute. It was poor match for the freeway. I traded it for a Kawasaki Versys. Perfect. 53 MPG. 54 miles round trip daily. Later a swapped the Versys for my Harley Sportster.
My mom passed in Nov 2011. No more need for being in El Cajon. I rented a room in Clairemont. The commute to the office was 7.5 miles. It was close enough to entertain use of an electric motorcycle. I decided against it because I wanted a bike capable of getting me home to Pocatello if necessary. My 2009 Harley Fat Bob cost $2,000 more than the electric bike and delivered a perfect San Diego<-->Pocatello round trip in August 2012. 49 MPG averaged over the 1900 mile trip.
EVs are fancy golf carts. Ok for local transportation. Not suitable for regular long distance trips. Cities in Idaho are a long distance apart. It is 53 miles one-way to Idaho Falls from Pocatello. A trip would require a fully charged battery to ensure getting home and mandatory down time upon return. A trip to Old Faithful (186 miles one-way) would be out of range or require a stop in West Yellowstone to charge going either direction. No thanks.
Reason #3129 to prohibit the wealthy from government and politics.
The list grows longer every day.
