When driving to chess matches in college we always had two or three magnetic sets. That’s where I learned to play ‘blindfol;ded two games simultaneously. As to cheating in chess, I had an incident in the Alabama Open one year when a guy stopped the clock and stuck out his hand (sign of resigning) then asked me what I would do if he had played a certain move, which he made ont he board and restarted the clock. The players next to us saw what he did and it was the only way to get Justice ... he was expelled from the tournament.
I never played tournament chess and don't know all the rules. I understood a player resigned by tipping over their own king or picking him up and putting him down off the board.
Yep...No doubt someone would probably give it a try.
People who cheat as children may become honest as adults. I would guess that it is a common thing.
Played in the US Open at the Watergate one year and one of my opponents played the decline in the Queens Gambit (I had white pieces). I played a move not found in most books and he was thereafter constantly getting up to go the bathroom. There were no computers back then so I suspect he was trying to scan a book like Steven's Blue Book to see what he should do. In the end he accepted the knight for a pawn gambit in the center of the board ... and lost with only a minute left on his clock.
The teenager who beat Carlsen also played the World #2 ranked player at that tournament, had a deep winning move, missed it, and had to settle for a draw by repetition.
Carlsen is not going to defend his world chess championship title in 2023.
His likely opponent in 2023 would be the same Russian he defeated in 2021 ("Nepo"). Because the Championship requires an exhausting set of five matches, Carlsen says he just does not have the motivation to play Nepo again.
Carlsen has had the highest chess rating in the sport for eleven straight years. Carlsen also has the all time record for highest rating at 2882.
He has been trying very hard to be the first player to reach 2900. Within the last few months he has lost twice to players with low 2700 ratings, which has been a painful setback for his 2900 goal.
It is important to remember that previous championships were all classical games. Contemporary chess champions must also be experts at rapid chess and blitz chess.
Carlsen is the only chess player in history to win multiple world championships in classical, rapid, and blitz.
Vibrating anal beads which pick up a remote transmitter and deliver the best move in Morse Code.
Laugh your mad giggle now, but wait and see if major chess matches don’t start mandating body cavity searches.
For such a guy at only 19 to win with the black pieces against magnus…it screams cheating.
Carlsen played a series of inferior moves and lost. Recently rated at over 2800 and second in the world (currently 4th at 2785) is 19-year old Alireza Firouzja who is tied for the lead in the tournament with one round left to play. 17-year old Indian player Praggananandaa Rameshbabu (2687) (Pragga) has defeated Carlsen three times, the first at age 16. There are five teenage super grandmasters rated over 2700 (of 42 total). Players that good beating Carlsen does not scream cheating. Although he is still the highest rated player in the world, Carlsen is human and his highest rating was in 2014. Before the recent Candidate's Tournament Carlsen said he likely would not play in the Championship next year unless the challenger were Alireza Firouzja. Russian Ian Nepomniatchi won the tournament for the second consecutive time. Carlsen formally informed FIDE (the governing body) that he would not participate in the championship match and Nepomniatchi will meet the Challenger runner-up Chinese player Ding Liren.
Stockfish Robot, the personification of the super-strong Stockfish computer chess engine (substantially stronger than any human) reviewed the Carlsen-Niemann game and detected no cheating, but did detect a series of substandard moves by Carlsen.

The Sinquefield Cup Chief Arbiter issued a statement in response to rumors confirming that they "have no indication that any player has been playing unfairly in the 2022 Sinquefield Cup."
“In response to the recent rumors circulating the chess world, I can confirm that we currently have no indication that any player has been playing unfairly in the 2022 Sinquefield Cup. This includes all rounds played to date.We have been running all the Grand Chess Tour events, including the Sinquefield Cup, and other major tournaments here in Saint Louis, for many years with the same strict anti-cheating measures that were in place for rounds 1-3, and we are not aware of any fair play violations during these past events. These measures included scanning of players with metal detectors prior to games and randomly after games, close observation of the players and fair play analysis by Professor Kenneth Regan using the FIDE Game Screening Tool.
However, on behalf of all the players and the event, I consulted with Grand Chess Tour Chief Arbiter, IA David Sedgwick, and together we advocated that additional anti-cheating measures be enacted after round 3. These measures included the scanning of players with RF scanners and a 15-minute delay on the live broadcast. I am very thankful to the organizers in Saint Louis who immediately agreed to these requests, despite additional expenses, last-minute technical issues and the loss of a truly live broadcast.
The arbiter team will continue to remain vigilant, and all of the anti-cheating measures that have been in place will continue to be so for the remainder of this event.

At elite tournaments, such as the Sinquefield Cup, bathrooms are checked to defeat the old cell phone in the bathroom trick. Players are scanned entering and leaving for electronic devices.
For a player to cheat at the board at this event would require him to do it on camera.
The broadcast time delay instituted after the third round was aimed at deterring assistance from outside the playing room. The outside assistant would have to wait 15 minutes to see the position and the player would have to sit and wait while his clock runs.
J’adoube!...
That only happens late...at knight...
Funny
I play Scrabble and my mom thought magnetic tiles would be nice as they would be easy to sweep off the board after a game.
However, they would all get stuck to one another in the bag, so no luck there.
Boom!
I hate pansy Richard heads like this
“You can’t win honestly and decently? “
I played simple poker years ago with a moron.
Apparently, two pair of a kind beats three of a kind in his world.
I called him an assHoyle and had another drink.
Hate cheaters
He even proclaimed he was an ivy league statistician
Uhmmm....yeah....cuz, how many pairs and two pairs are I a deck, and how three of a kind are in a deck?
Deck head....
Did Niemann ever visit the toilet during the match? That was part of the plot of an episode of “Death in Paradise”. The cheater would hide a cell phone in the bathroom and consult it when necessary.
The misogyny and racism was outrageous!
The guy is 19 and got caught cheating when he was 16. That’s not ages ago.

Elon Musk claims anal beads were secretly being used to transmit information to Hans Niemann as to what moves to make. As Mr Spock would say, “fascinating”.
It was a joke.
I’m a casual non-competitive player at Chess.com, and cheating is endemic on the platform (using 3rd party move calculators and engines), so I’m not surprised that it has spilled over into over-the-table professional matches, especially with lots of $$$$ on the line.
The current theory on the Chess vblogs and news sites is that Carlsen has a “mole” on his support staff who leaked his “prep” plan, i.e. his “game strategy” and intended “lines,” to Niemann, who ambushed him. Niemann has admitted to cheating before at Chess.com and got banned, but not cheating in professional table-top matches. Still, he seems awfully dodgy. And yeah, Carlsen is also a big man-child.
