We have made so many enemies that countries are stepping up to support Russia. The EU is a tiny pocket on the coat of BRICs and countries are lining up to join BRICS, including Saudi Arabia and Iran.

The brutal reality is Russia’s population is closer to 145 million and only 71 million are slavic, fewer still are actually Russian and nearly all of them are old, average age 40+ on the population. Worse yet there was a huge slump in births between 1990 and 2008 so there prime military draft age is missing.
What will replace Putinism? Probably a breakup of what remains of the Soviet empire when nobody in Irkutsk picks up the phone call from Moscow demanding more draftees for a war in Ukrainia.
Anyone’s guess.
Maybe Medvedev. I don’t expect any revolutionary changes. Putin remains relatively popular among older Russians, I think someone from his inner circle to take the helm if he is forced to step aside.
