Putin made a very bad mistake.
And I think he should have retired 10 years ago or more. He would have left in glory. He could have been an international elder statesman, been a regular in Davos, and kept his fortune in London and Zurich.

Do you understand that average daily temperatures have a broader range when you are located away from an ocean?
Average daily low temperature in Paris, France in January: 37 degrees F.
Average daily low temperature in Kharkiv, Ukraine in January: 17 degrees F.
It is quite a bit different to be camping out in a trench at 37 degrees vs. 17 degrees F.
Ukraine is also at a slightly higher latitude than North Dakota, which gets cold enough.
I have occasion to call government workers in Washington on a weekly, if not daily basis. Most have never returned to the office since the pandemic began, and almost every phone call goes to voicemail. Although, they do usually call back.

The person who passed along this rumor — unverified, mind you — said it was office phones, government-issued cellphones, and personal cellphones, all going to voicemail. Also, all flights into and out of Moscow have been halted “due to weather,” but Moscow’s weather is in the upper 40s with occasional light rain. Lots going on . . .
