A statement like that is useless without definitions.
How are you measuring storms? Is it frequency, intensity, size? Are they measuring damage or the economic impact?
There are a lot of things that need to be clarified…then you can start making a case.
But that would be treating it like science.
“Pay your weather tax. Pay your weather tax. We have jets to buy and castles to build.”
There is no historical or scientific evidence for that politically biased opinion. In fact hurricanes were substantially more frequent and powerful in the 1800s when records began than they have been for more than the past 100 years.
Building in potentially dangerous areas such as Times Square in Fort Myers has only been possible due to virtually no storm activity in the past century.
Nice one!
The best way to compare hurricanes between years is the Barometer reading. There are other factors to consider like sustained windspeed, storm surge levels, etc. but they are also a lot easier to fudge, especially “sustained” windspeed, rather than just measuring the gusts. But Barometer readings are hard to fudge. In this case - wasn’t 937 the low? There have been dozens of storms in the past 100 years where it went below 890.
