Can you imagine having several children and dividing up a box of candies into plastic bags to keep them amused on a drive to the grocery store, then the baggies end up left in the back seat of your car upon your return? Parents do this type of thing all the time. And, everyone who has children knows what the back seat looks like after you have taken the children anywhere at all. When you return from the store, you are busy getting the children and groceries out of the vehicle, including the youngest who fell asleep on the way home, and tell yourself you will get the left-over candy bags later.
Then, the following day you get stopped for speeding while on the way to work and the officer sees those baggies and arrests you for drug possession. Labs are way backed up in processing drug tests so you remain in jail for months and lose your job and your friends, and maybe the custody of your children, all because of some bags of candy. There should be recompense for such failures by law enforcement and the legal system.
I remember years ago a story of a guy (a Florida man, of course) who was arrested for meth due to tiny flakes on the floorboard of his car. It was actually pieces of Krispy Kreme glazed doughnut frosting, but he was arrested and spent time in jail until the tests results were returned.
(Just googled the story and found it here. https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2017/10/16/558147669/florida-man-awarded-37-500-after-cops-mistake-glazed-doughnut-crumbs-for-meth )
“We need to admit defeat and dismantle the police state and let idiots go die of drug overdoses. I just don’t care at this point.”
I’m with you. To eradicate the illegal drug trade would take penalties so draconian the people would never support them. Unless we are going to execute ALL drug dealers AND their customers we are just pissing into the wind.

Not if the muggers, robbers, and rapists are shot DEAD by their potential victims. Every Man and Woman should be armed and trained to defend themselves with LETHAL FORCE!
Thank God it wasn’t Junior Mints..... lol
I can defend myself from pillaging druggies, but not against a pillaging police state.
I’d rather deal with the one within my skillset.
I would go along if it included a modest prison sentence and felony conviction, because nobody like that should ever be allowed to have a firearm
They are above the law and should not be.
Why pay for tests? Just ask the officers who steal “drugs” out of the PD’s forfeited contraband stash whether they got buzzed or not.
A college friend of mine dated a Philadelphia Assistant District Attorney who used the evidence locker for his weed supply.
Agreed.
And mind you, I don’t, for a second think drugs are a good idea. Nor am I eager for druggies to have free reign.
But sale of drugs, by companies with insurance, who are liable for the damage their drugs do to their customers and others, seems a better solution than the police state.
And beef up vagrancy and similar laws -— and enforce them, strictly.
Allow employers (and require welfare suppliers) to liberally drug test and fire people or deny benefits to drug addicts.
The FBI, Postal Inspectors, whatever, all use laws and tools that are supposed to be used against drug smugglers against political enemies.
That secret police is far more dangerous than drug zombies.
I fully understand the concern. Again, I hate drugs and druggies.
I just think the lesser danger are the druggies. The police state will end in tyranny. It may yet. It’s certainly close.
Even the “good” Gestapo (er, I mean FBI) are going along with things to protect their pensions.
