Have you not gotten to the 20th century in your history class yet?
If so you will find that the end of the UK empire was not “graceful” as you describe but did involve some quite large attacks on it rivals know as WWI and WWII.

I think the Boomers find it difficult to not see Russia as the enemy, even though the Cold War ended 30 years ago. It's why the Dems cynically resurrected those fears in 2016, when Hillary started claiming that Russia was meddling in our elections. I couldn't believe how stupid it all sounded, but lo and behold, a lot of Americans believed it! Such is the power of myth... in many older Americans' minds, Russia will forever be the bogeyman.
And we didn't know it back in 2016, but I suspect the Deep State was trying to launch a smear campaign against Russia because they wanted Hillary to go to war with Russia back in 2017 over the Crimea issue. I made this comment on a long posted thread about the Kerch Bridge bombing on the day it happened, 10/8/22. I looked at all the material I could find and made several comments in the daays immediately folling this date. I think I got it right.
At this post there are several good photos in the first 50 comments. Also, the burning train at comment #128. Based on all I saw it was a truck bomb driving on the auto road, and it also set the train on fire. Use the Search bar with entry “Kerch Bridge” to see a lot of articles from Oct. 8th onward.
I think this is old news and the bridge has been repaired.

The dates are confusing. The date on the weather forecast in the top right hand corner is March 16, 2023.
However, when you look at the byline, just below the main bullet points, the date is October 8, 2022.
I distinctly remember seeing these photographs before.
I don’t know what happened. Did DailyMail.com just republish an old story?
I would be skeptical of this being current news without corroboration from another source.

Yes, it looked like it came from a vehicle on the bridge.
These weren’t Ukrainians. Biden is now actively and has been engaging in war with Russia using US troops. It’s not yet public but you can bet your Senators and Congress people are all in and supporting it. They’ve been villifying him for months and will likely push and push and push until Russia declares war on us. If they don’t they will concoct some tragedy and blame it on the Russians to justify a full scale war.
It is just a matter of time.
Oct. 8, 2022 was right after the original attack. Later, I think in Jan. or early Feb. Putin went to the bridge to celebrate the reopening of all 4 traffic lanes and the fact it had been repaired so quickly. It was also said the 2 railway lines would not be fully repaired until Sept. 2023. That fire must have seriously weakened concrete and rebar. I have no idea why a March 16, 2023, date appeared on the paper you saw. Perhaps a recap because Ukraine may be getting ready to attack Crimea, or perhaps because of the drone attack near Crimea so recently.
How Kerch bridge was destroyed. My theory.
This was a two prong attack, with British and US intel getting the architecture blueprints and designing the plans to take it down. Ukrainians carried it out.
#1 — Railway bridge was more crucial. Rail is how the Russian army gets supplies. The train was stalled and motionless on the Kerch Bridge. Someone must have been paid off. Some missiles hit the fuel laden railcars that melted and warped the support structure.

#2 Simultaneously, hundreds of pounds of C4/or similar were detonated under the roadway of Kerch. The architectural plans showed the most vulnerable points to place the C4. They came in by boat. This succeeded in dropping two bridge spans into the water. Or was it three?

After spending several hours reviewing the photo evidence and whatever written info I could find, I do agree with some of your ideas, but disagree with others.
1) Rail bridge more crucial, agree. Perhaps train was deliberately stopped. Doubt missiles hit rail tankcars. I think they were made of wood or something like that, thus highly flammable, and easy to rupture.
2) I don’t know that explosives were detonated under the roadway. After many viewings of the truck coming down the slope and massively exploding, I think the bouncing of the roadbed could have been enough to cause all and parts of spans to detach and fall. Three people died, the truck driver and 2 people in a car seen driving in the opposite direction passing the exploding truck. Black burn marks in a half moon pattern on the 2 surviving traffic lanes look like result of truck explosion. I read a report about people/guards casually examining truck and chatting with driver for about 10 minutes before he drove off. I suspect he may have volunteered for this suicide job. Who knows, perhaps relatives killed or dying of cancer. The explosion I saw was certainly enough to damage and set wooden tank cars on fire.
3) The truck bomb was definitely the primary explosion cause. I saw 3 different sets of photos of the truck exploding, and nothing that suggested an explosion under the bridge. If the amount of explosive suggested had blown under the 2 traffic lanes, they probably would have been more warpped and twisted. I think I saw underneath photos and no scorch marks under the fallen spans.
I may look to see if I can find a more recent evaluation of what really happened. Cheers
This detailed Wiki report completely supports the truck bomb version. In the last paragraph it has detailed reports on exactly how much explosive was imported, and the exact route that was taken to get it into Russia. Since at least 8 people involved were captured by Russia, they were probably strongly persuaded to give all the details. I was also mistaken about 3 people killed. It was 5, and I do remember seeing 2 cars going in the opposite direction for which I wondered if they had been destroyed by the truck explosion.

Truck bomb would not have set the fuel laden rail cars on fire. This fire ruined/destroyed the Kerch railway lines.

FWIW: there is no accounting for what information appears or not in any Wiki document. It is unreliable and often wrong out of ignorance, deliberate or otherwise, and editor political preferences.
Just because Wiki says something is “true” or “factual” does not make either so.
