Having lived in 4 countries in Europe.....
All Europeans watch a lot of American TV programs and movies. The big countries like France, Germany, Italy dub them into their own languages.
The smaller countries subtitle them into their own languages.
The latter are hearing native English speakers speaking English for hours and hours every day from the time they are little kids. As a result, they tend to speak English MUCH better than those who grow up with the voices dubbed into their native languages. She’s Dutch....they all speak English really well.
I worked with a fellow that grew up under the Nazi occupation in the Netherlands. A great guy and a great friend 40 years ago.
I wonder if this isn’t the end game in New Zealand, where they want to tax farmers for their livestock’s burps and flatulence. The leader of a farmers’ organization says farmers might be forced to sell, but who is buying?

If those promises were made, then they lied.
While Bill Gates and China buy farmland in the U.S. (another of those topics the mockingbirds "shall not talk about"), I can imagine if there were a mass refusal to sell to the aforementioned entities, you would get similar moves from DC you're seeing being done by the Dutch politicians.
This has been going on for years. The fact that now any proposals* from Agriculture is not even being considered is a tell. Mr Global means to seize and hold from here on out.
