(There are two near me, one three miles north, the other three miles east, and one ten miles west. And I live in semirural central FL. When I went to college I lived 13 miles from the original Wawa, in Wawa.)

Yep. As soon as the busses start coming from Section 8 housing or predominantly poor black neighborhoods to your local mall, it's only a matter of time.
In the case of the local mall near me which used to be considered "upscale" as recently as five years ago, two of the four major anchors are now gone, two remain just barely, and the remaining smaller stores are typically one-off "specialty" shops that don't last long, close, re-open as something else and the cycle keeps repeating.
Last Christmas I actually went there to go to the Pandora store for my long term girlfriend. The local PD had one paddy wagon full of shoplifters that was leaving, and one right behind it ready to take on the next load. It went on like that all day long.
Wasn't that way before the busses started arriving at the mall... just sayin'.

LOL, looks like the “communities” went ahead and got theirs before you paid off the NUL.
And you live in a place where they actually arrest shoplifters. Just think of places like San Francisco where no one gets arrested unless they steal more than $950 worth of goods. What is to stop a shoplifting free-for-all?
I was talking to a man in charge of logistics for a food service distribution service that delivers to WaWa in Phl.
He said drivers open the truck and take a load into the back door of the store… and when they come back, the truck has people in the back, grabbing everything they can get - throwing it to people on the ground .

Boy Howdy! That is a mighty narrow minded view from Wawa.
And probably racist too.
Just because their customers & employees stand a pretty good
shot at getting shot is no reason to deprive peoples of color a place to hang out and buy 40 ouncers.
