I saw an investigator on TV this morning and he said that it was being investigated as a possible hate crime.

No, it was not a hate crime, it was a murderous assault.

When, in human history, has murder NOT been an act of hate. Evidence needs to be gathered on who did it. The motivation is like trying to catch the horses after the barn door is opened. Murder is the superlative degree and overwhelms the motivation.

However, when it is determined that is was a “hate crime” that means that the dead are more dead, and the murderer is more evil because he did not just commit a random act of cold-bloodied murder.
