I’ll be the first in line to point and laugh at the next mass shooting in France.

The Foreign Legionnaires aren’t French!...
Most aren’t, but their officers are. And a Frenchman can join if he wishes/needs to change his identity, but they’ll sign him up as a Belgian, Canadian, Swiss or other native French speaker.
The French stopped the Germans in 1914 and fought well in 1940 during the Dunkirk operation. Troops holding the Maginot line only surrendered when the French president came out and ordered them to. Their failure in 1940 came from leadership and tactics, not from a lack of bravery.

You would think a country that has been invaded and occupied as much as France has would see the folly of having an unarmed population.
On the other hand, any time a bratwurst powered fart makes it across the Rhine they gear up to fight....to see who will kiss the Kraut’s asses and be the biggest collaborators.

Methinks they would be obligated to defend the honor of France. Also, I think French citizens can join now.

IIRC, French citizens always could join if they wanted to ‘get away’ for a while................

Yeah! that’s not really accurate.
It was the French nation’s legion on foreign ground. Hence the name ‘French Foreign Legion.
They accepted volunteers from other nations, but it was still ‘French’. It was reputed to be one of the toughest and best fighting units at the time.

True enough. They also did revolution correctly once. Personally, I'd love to see some heads rolling in DC. Quite literally.

I may be wrong , but I thought the French Foreign Legion legionaires, except for the officers, were not French citizens.

True enough but the people of France learned nothing from being occupied with the willing help from the French government!

Yes, indeed. In my earlier posts I argued that historically, the French were not cowards. And any attempt to paint them that way was wrong.
But any Frenchman who is turning in his guns today is stupid, very stupid. As you noted, that Frenchman has learned nothing from the past.

Why own one if, when you really need one (like now) you don’t use it?
