And they will call them . . . WINDHENGE!
The stupidest thing about windfarms (IMHO) is that when winter weather is at its worst, high winds and/or heavy icing, they HAVE TO be shut down as AN ACT OF SELF-PRESERVATION. Because high-speed winds over-spinning the fan would wreck its innards, and an uneven accumulation of ice (or uneven shedding) would cause the fan to self-destruct, probably wrenching out the generator as it goes.
So when the going gets tough, the windmills get ... shut down.
The cooler the air, the lower the humidity.
It is not the wind pattern that is important but the temperature drop. Look at it this way: the windmills generate energy in the form of electricity. the energy is given up by the wind, which is a gas. Remove energy from a gas, and the result is a lowering of gas temperature. Sophomore level of physical chemistry at the school I attended.
>> If we put up too many windmills won’t the winds slow down<<
It may rain downstream of the turbines because of the cooling of the air. The lower the air temperature the lower the humidity of the air. Excess humidity is shed in the form of rain.
