I consider her a fellow American. She was born here and lives here. That qualifies her. I just don’t have it in me to feel sorry for everyone whose stupidity gets him or her into trouble. Live and learn. The Russians knew exactly what they had with her, and they made the most of it.

Griner legitimately broke a legitimate law in a foreign country. She knew better, or perhaps I am granting her overmuch sense, but she was NOT undeserving of the penalty. It is clear what the penalties are. She willfully defied that law and got caught in an obvious location in which to get caught as if she were daring the Russians to stop her. They did. Whelan does not deserve to be in Russian prison. If he were actually an American spy then he US should sure as hell have got him back instead of the woman who hates America and breaks laws.
