If the sea level were rising, the Maldives would be submerged, or nearly so by now.

I suspect most strongly that we are currently looking at a Grand Solar Minimum. Sun's intensity ebbs, ice caps and fields grow, and sea levels fall a bit (for the ice accumulated over land. Floating ice does not affect sea level).

You do understand that on February 20th, 2020, President Donald Trump would select Nesheiwat to be his homeland security advisor and the Florida position would remain vacant for the next two years (in case you missed the 2019 publishing date of this article).

It's also a position to deal with the economic impacts of flooding because Florida has these things called hurricanes.
