This wouldn’t be the first time such a person tried to commit the “perfect crime.”
Here’s an archive of a Reddit post he made asking for ex-cons to give the details of what crime they did, etc.

Because this isn’t TV land. An investigation needs to cross the t’s and dot the i’s. Cellphone saying it (and probably you) were there doesn’t mean you did it. What that does is tell them to see if your prints or DNA are on record and can be matched with evidence found at the scene. Which of course has to have been found and processed. I’ve got a friend who spent a career working in the blood evidence lab. She hates those shows, and a big part of why she hates them is because they make people ask the same question you did. None of the process is fast. And you don’t actually want it to be fast. Fast is sloppy, sloppy is bad, sloppy destroys evidence, sloppy breaks evidence chains and loses cases, sloppy makes the wrong people go to trial. Their job is to be thorough, be careful, and make sure they don’t botch the case. All of which takes time.

Thanks. In my post just before yours (#61), I speculated he was trying to get away with the perfect crime. Conducting that survey and putting a post on Reddit kind of belies the “perfect crime” angle.

Hello,
My name is Bryan, and I am inviting you to participate in a research project that seeks to understand how emotions and psychological traits influence decision-making when committing a crime. In particular, this study seeks to understand the story behind your most recent criminal offense, with an emphasis on your thoughts and feelings throughout your experience. In the event that your most recent offense was not one that led to a conviction, you may still participate. Additional surveys are included after the open-ended section as to best understand your unique traits. The study should take about 15-20 minutes to fully complete.
Your identity and all answers provided are completely confidential, and the link to the survey is also an anonymous link. This research has been approved by the DeSales University IRB.
Participants must be 18 years of age and older.
If you opt to participate, you may terminate participation at any time and for any reason.

These two Universities are just a short drive apart, about 10 miles, on a straight, well paved (and patrolled) highway.
Lots of bars, and the students visit ‘next door’ a lot.

The white Hyundai Elantra seen in the vicinity of the crime was driven by him and they towed it from the place where they arrested him at.
I believe the police/FBI will be thanking the convenience store manager who combed through hours of her store’s camera footage and turned over video of what she believed to be a suspicious, speeding white vehicle around the time of the crime.

Sounds like the condo/apt was an open air party den. To quote the neighbor, “No one was surprised something had happened there.”
My respect for the Moscow police went up significantly today. I hope the prosecution works out for them.
Both the U of I and WSU are very close to the ID-WA border: within a few miles. So, the 2 universities are quite close to each other.
