Yes. One-party state dictatorships like California never want to learn about the law of unintended consequences.

IIRC-—NEWSOM declared fast food workers-—all 560,000 of them in Calif needed to make $22 an hour MINIMUM starting wage.

I tell people if I own a business and have $20 an hour to spend for two people & they raise the min wage to $15 per hour, I’ll fire the worse of the two and increase the workload on the remaining worker. Since one is now unemployed, their true min wage is $0 per hour proving Dr. Thomas Sowell’s point that true min wage is $0.

Or tell bleeding hearts that if $15 an hour is compassionate, $100 per hour must be super compassionate.

Touchscreens, conveyor belts: McDonald’s opens first largely automated location
Test restaurant near Fort Worth, Texas, has drawn ire of activists calling for living wage

Smaller than a typical McDonald’s, the location is geared towards customers on the go rather than those who plan to dine inside.

LA is shit-—No matter what hourly wage you make.

I lived there for 29 years. I paid myself $20 an hour doing accounting for small businesses, effective 1-1-1989. No minimums—no charge for travel time.

I had my own house & 2 cars & a 1 ton truck & a 2 horse trailer & 4 horses.

NOW own 5 +++ acres free & clear in N Nevada high desert. Still have horses, truck, car, & 4 horse trailer.

Still charging only $20 an hour. Last client retired in spring this year. I did HIS books for 53 years.

I deliberately live on what I NEED-—NOT on what I WANT.

NO cell phone
No car payments
No Mortgage
No visits to hair salon
No manicures
No massages
No “spa days”
No jewelry
No movies
No cable TV
New clothes==new set of sweats & underwear & socks.
Very little ‘eating out’
No ‘new furniture’ or other household items
Living on Soc Sec

4” + of snow outside & I have on boots that are 18 years + old.

Watched part of Dr Phil today-—couple claimed to be working very hard & couldn’t “afford rent”. Blamed “Greedy Landlords”. SHE thought it was a ‘travesty’ that landlords would let people like them be homeless instead of lowering “rent to what they could pay”. Totally clueless about what property costs-—mortgage rates-—Calif property taxes—utilities-—maintenance, etc.

But FIRST expense she named was $360 a month cell phone bill. That == 50 cents an hour-—That also == $4320 annually—not counting new phones often.

She ‘had 3 jobs’—not detailed what for how much wages-—he made $27.50 an hour...no details. That = $56,100 annually.

Dr Phil tried to tell them they needed to make 3 budgets:
The I WANT budget
The I NEED budget
The What I can AFFORD budget

She wasn’t understanding based on her facial expressions.

IF I am a property owner-—I have a right to charge what I want for rent——SHE doesn’t get to set ‘what she can afford’.

The fully automated order/pickup in some stores has humans in the kitchen. There is no customer contact with humans.

Great! We'll be going back to the 1930s style Automats!

When a home costs a million, 45K is slave labor. You cannot live on 45K in California. It’s impossible!

This law amounts to essentially a taking. The business is basically taken over by a new government agency by eminent domain.

Why would she need to pay that much on a phone bill today? You can get an unlimited plan for wireless and data for $70 or less?

Most McDonald’s employees live at home with their mommies and daddies.

The original McDonalds was a drive in. Then they changed it to a walk-up to save on waiters/waitresses. I first went to McDonalds in 1962. You walked in a door, up to the counter and ordered, then went back to your car to eat. I could get a burger, fries, and a coke for under a dollar.

AB 257, or the Fast Food Accountability and Standards Recovery Act

State seizure of the rights of business owners and the rights of property owners.

Seized by a state-government-created union (the ten-member so-called “council”), with that union council not elected by the workers, but rather, chosen by the government.

The workers are effectively union members without union membership powers and rights . . . those being dictated to the workers, by the council.

To wit: California nationalizes the fast food industry, removing incentive to exist and increasing regulatory burdens.

My point is raising the wages of fast food workers in LA to $20/hr will not change the price by much. They already charge a premium.

Actually, the heads of three fast food chains already said that this will cause them to pull out of California, if passed...and by the way, it’s $22/hour minimum, not $20.

Oh, there will still be hamburgers. There simply won’t be human workers anymore.
