The Catholic Church defines marriage as between a man and a woman. So unless the Pope specifically mentioned "gay marriage," then his Catholic context implies the Church's definition of marriage.
Read an article today where Homo-Franky was “clarifying” he words on homosexuality being a sin versus a crime.
It was all about Catholic Doctrine, this Catholic Doctrine that…. Nothing about the Bible says this and the Bible says that. Catholic Doctrine trumps tue Word of God I guess.
I pray the Holy Spirit removes him very soon.

Catholics view marriages between two Christians (including Protestants and eastern orthodox) as sacramental marriages. We view marriages between non-Christians or between a Christian and a non-Christian as a natural marriage. In the same speech he mentions marriage being between a man and woman.
Note that the Catholic Faith does not recognize a “re-marriage” after divorce between two Christians as even a natural marriage.
There are lots of scandals caused by things he has said, this does not appear to fall into that category.
