Re: Ukraine Population. Just take their own starting census data, last one from 2001. There are lots of scholarly articles which calculate outward migration of the last 20+ years, EU/Brussels research on birth rates, Estimated population of Crimea, Donbas, and estimates of refugees who fled both east and west at the start of the war.
20 million remaining in rump Ukraine should be quite an accurate estimate. Moreover, its a very skewed demographic - quite old. Young people have been leaving Ukraine for decades.

It might be a slow ‘turn’ however. Because Zelensky/US/NATO are itching to go nuclear with this, some believe Russia will move slowly and methodically instead of the blitz that would end it quickly. The slow ‘workman like’ pushing of the Ukrainians out of their path as they move through the east is meant to reduce ‘excuses’ for nuclear war coming from Zelensky’s handlers. That is to say sudden sweep might result in escalation on the side of the west, but slow creep is intended to provide the least excuse for Zelensky to resume calling for preemptive nuke strike.

They couldn’t afford weapons, so their job was - follow directly behind the main soldiers, and collect the brass shell casings or anything else that could be re-used. When a soldier was shot, pick up his weapon, and keep going forward.
