Ted Cruz? I was an early supporter of Cruz 2015 because he advocated for a ground game, which I think our team defintely needs.
But Cruz the hired a staff that was clueless what a ground game would look like or how it would be implemented. Cruz famously came to Eric’s show in Atlanta. After the speech in ATL Cruz went to exurbia Newnan. Between Atlanta and Newnan many thousands of grassroots troops ready to be drafted to play on the field.
Cruz staff was clueless what to do with them, treated them like spectators, not like players in the game. Lost opportunity.
A couple months later Daddy Cruz came to the suburbs. People close to me organized for that. A couple hundred people showed. Many Cruz staffers also.
Again, Cruz staff clueless that these couple hundred wanted to be players in the game. They lived politics (pro life, pro gun as well as conservative) 24/7. Cruz staff treated them like spectators of the game.
A presidential candidate needs to be a quick thinker, quick actor. Cruz should have, and did not see, that his staff was incompetent. He is not Presidential candidate or Presidential material. He is a great debater, which is a good place for a senator.
Ideologically I am closer to Cruz than Trump. But if you want to win, you need more than ideology. You need strategy and tactics. And part of that is the flexibility to see the strengths and weaknesses of your staff.
Trump changed campaign managers, not because one was good or bad, but because in certain situations you bring in the air game. Other situations you run up the middle, or play an option.

Full disclosure, I was pretty much trolling all the Cruz haters (Trump Freepers) from 2016. They were vicious and also empty.
Now they will be working over Desantis soon as disloyal. Such a dumb approach.

It always amazes me how the Never Trump faction still can’t grasp how
Pres Trump deals/dealt with people.
He’s said nice things about a lot of folks, world leaders in fact, doesn’t mean he’s buddy’s with them. He said nice things about Putin and Jingping, then proceeded to work against them.
Was he supposed to get up there and say this guy and his club are POSs? He was at a rally in support of a political candidate. Of course he’s going to say nice things.
These folks are no different than the chamber of commerce and wall st republicans that want cheap labor. Pres Trump knows that. They, like the Chamber of Commerce, supported other candidates more to the corporate liking.

Interesting, from what I was able to read, the only poll the DeSantis comes out on top is the one from the Club For Growth, taken at one of its events.
