That's one reason we have a second amendment. To defend against those who want to take things away from us.
Now you know why I have 20kW of solar panels and 92kWh of battery storage to provide 80% of the power we need, including charging the EV. ICE cars are better than EV's in most ways. But the simple fact of the matter is that I can't drill and process my own oil. Nor my own natural gas. Nor my own coal. One thing solar brings to the table is that only God and I regulate how much sunlight hits my property and how much of that sunlight is converted to electricity. That's also why I converted my 2 nat gas appliances to electric and when it was time to replace my wife's car anyway I replaced it with an EV.
No natural gas bill. Literally the only energy we have to buy is the 20% of power the home needs (including charging the EV) that the solar doesn't provide, plus a little gas at the pump for what little we drive the ICE pickup, plus whatever gas or power we buy when driving on long trips depending on which car we take, plus little bits of energy here and there (i.e. small propane tank for grill, gasoline for lawn mower, etc.). Energy costs are now a small portion of my budget. If the Dims use energy costs to limit our freedom they'll have to work really hard at it to mess up our retirement financial planning.
The EV is part of that by extending my mostly free power usage away from home and into our local transportation. Just like in the summer we keep our thermostat low without breaking a sweat (literally LOL) we also drive a lot around town without worrying about cost per mile.
I recently saw an article touting a new electric fire truck. The trucks cost $300,000 more than a conventional diesel powered truck. Interesting that the fire truck also had a diesel powered generator to keep the batteries charged when the estimated two hour battery life was exceeded.
Since the Biden regime wants to force them on everyone, I think the answer to that question is clear.
Good point! I remember when lithium batteries first came out to charge portable broadcast quality video cameras, we were trained to treat them like sensitive nuclear devices. Thirty years later, I’ve never heard any industry horror stories or camera deck explosion mishaps.
When I was about the same age we were painting our matchboxes.
Then we decided to change the colors by removing the old paint
with gas. After some got spilled on the sidewalk we just had
to try lighting it. We were all hooting and hollering even
had passing cars slowing down to see the flames shooting up
from the sidewalk.
I live in a modest size metro area(university town) in the midwest. I've lived near the campus for quite a few years. There were a couple of grocery stores within walking distance from my home, but not any more. In order to compete with the big box stores, the regional grocery stores had to follow suit and move to the edges of the metro area to expand. Riding a bus or riding a bike isn't practical, especially in the winter time..
By owning both an EV and an ICE pickup we have the best of both worlds.
*Gasoline fumes.
Remember, NBC needed model rockets to get side-saddle gasoline tanks on pickups to catch fire...and even then it didn’t always work...
...because the brain-trust at NBC filled those tanks completely instead of leaving them practically empty.
Or did I just demonstrate my age?
much farther down the article is the “answer” graphine batteries.. ummm bet they will catch fire too
You’re preaching to the choir.
Do you think the idiots making policy who live in dense Eastern cities understand that?
Ditto
As I’ve taken to saying, our Green energy extremists need to spend a Winter in North Dakota with dung fires for heating and cooking. I think that might serve to get their minds right on the overall subject.
And since this is a personal transportation thread, we’ll give them a yak to ride for that.
LOL
I take it you’ve never seen a lithium mine, it’s STRIP MINED, just like coal!
It’s not just some shaft in the mountain—it’s the whole mountain, torn down, ground up and shipped away for leaching in an acid bath.
If they don’t do the leaching on site, the acids used for leaching are Hydrochloric and or Sulfuric acid.
Both make for some pretty nasty waste products.
PS: At least coal can be used in it’s natural state, it doesn’t need any chemical treatment leaving nasty byproducts!
CO2 has nothing to do with global warming or cooling, just as a matter of REAL SCIENCE it’s been proven that CO2 actually lags a warming cycle.
Do your research kiddo, global warming is a SCAM, the Earths climate goes through cycles probably most influenced by the Milankovitch Cycle, (and that great big ball of burning gas in the daytime sky).
