A great question nobody is asking about Biden’s student loan giveaway plan: Advocates need to be pestered with this question, for there is no good answer

Basic reality as I see it:

This is an issue that we cannot afford to let the demopoops have, i.e. an issue capable of killing the GOP outright.

At minimum we need to ban compound interest on these loans and, when a person has paid as much as the original principle on the loan, bankruptcy becomes legal.

Many teens come out of high school not knowing how to read or do basic math these days. They can’t balance a checkbook, and have no idea how to make change to give back to you. How do we think they will figure out financial things if they can’t even handle the basics?

I agree with you, it should be taught. It is often overlooked.

Here is a question I don’t see anyone asking. Why do you have to take 2-3 humanities/liberal arts classes per year to qualify for a degree at a university? These are the classes that they use to push their woke ideology. If you major in something you should have to take English, Math and classes that pertain to your major. Not all these Humanities classes that allow the socialist instructors to try and indoctrinate the students. And then they charge you tuition to be indoctrinated, its infuriating!!!

Good question. My niece nrolled at Queensboroah Community College ( for a 2 year associates degree in preparation for a career in Cyber Security ). She STILL had to waste time taking 2-3 humanities/liberal arts classes.

Those unrelated classes could have been used to prepare her TECHNICALLY for her career instead (or to prepare to go to a Bachelor’s degree ).

My question regarding the concept of “free” college is this.

If higher education was free, it is reasonable to expect that many more people would avail themselves of the opportunity to go to college (I mean why not, it’s free). If more people access college, it is also reasonable that colleges, especially smaller institutions, will require massive upgrades in facilities and staff. Has this cost been factored into the total estimated costs for this proposal. Also in the case of private colleges, would taxpayer money be used to fund any need infrastructure improvements or staff hiring ???

In the case of regional or county community colleges (usually two year schools), would the burden for improvements and additional staff have to be paid exclusively by the regional or county residents through increased taxes ??

Before Carter there was HEW (Health, Education and Welfare). I think what Carter did was to split off Education as a separate cabinet position--it wasn't created from nothing. The remainder became Health and Human Services.

More than 40 years later, Canine Americans and Feline Americans are still waiting for a department catering to their needs to be created.

” Canceling student loan debt would change their lives”
Putting that debt on folks who didn’t borrow the money would change their lives as well, you socialist artificial redskin.

Yes this is why when my 4 teens applied to colleges (my last is waiting to hear back from hers on admittance decisions) I paid special attention to the 6 year graduation rate. It’s a mark of quality.

SCOTUS might let this stand for 2 reasons: standing (no one is really harmed here other than the taxpayer which the SC has deemed has no standing), and because the HEROES Act that Congress stupidly passed gives the Secretary of Education to do whatever he/she wants re: student loans in cases of “emergency.”

Congress should rescind the HEROES Act. It was designed for soldiers/sailors away in Iraq and post 9-11 spouse survivors with student loans but was written way too broadly.

The “major questions” doctrine might strike down the mass debt forgiveness, as the issue has too much political and economic significance to go forward without Congress.

There is recourse for students who were conned. There is Borrower Defense relief for schools who broke state/federal laws, and Closed School discharge for schools that close down suddenly, and False Certification discharge for schools that let in students without HS degrees or involve identity theft etc. And more.

But. . .buyer beware.

There are new initiatives happening right now that allow for student loans to be more easily discharged in bk, and also new repayment plans starting up (linked to income) so that basically many loans will essentially turn into grants (written off after just 10 years of making small payments) for lower income borrowers.

Yes-my son at a Cal State has to take not one, not two, but THREE “global studies/diversity studies/ethnic studies” classes. And that IN ADDITION TO lots of other GEs.

All he wants to take is Computer Science classes. With all the GE classes he has to choose his classes very carefully and he STILL might not graduate in 4 years.

The UK does it right: no GEs or indoctrination—a CS major takes CS classes only and then gets out in 3 years. Much cheaper.

It’s worse than just the money. It’s teaching our kids to be deadbeats, moochers, welshers, and oath breakers.
