“”Just this one thing: during his presidency, five nations entered the Soviet communist sphere.””
I’ve always remembered it as seven, which fell under Soviet influence during the Carter years.

Getting back to Lincoln, my problems with him are his stupid Greenback policies, and the IRS. I prefer Jackson and Polk. It was a shame that a Jacksonian and not a Hamiltonitonian was President during that time.

He also, literally, gave away the Panama Canal. To China as it turns out. For which we may pay dearly in blood. No amount of revisionism will erase that. For me at least.
And since the left loves totalitarians, his affinity for them is not considered a negative anyway.

It was widely believed that the west was not well-suited for slavery (with so much of it being desert). By 1860 the free states already outnumbered the slave states by 3 (California, Minnesota and Oregon were admitted in the 1850s but no new slave states), but the North's margin in the House of Representatives was much larger.
Mexico was actually willing to give up more real estate than we actually took in the Gadsden Purchase--Congress cut back on the territory ceded for fear it might someday become part of a slave state.

I agree. Double digit inflation, double digit interest rates, and double digit unemployment under Carter. I collected cook books for wild critters because we couldn’t afford the grocery store.
