Last year Russia had the second largest balance of payments surplus in the world, second only to China. Some noose.

You’ve been saying that for 7 months now.

How is the weather for you in Kazan, Tatarstan, in the Russian federation?

That was last year. The Russians spent it on this senseless war.

The slumping revenues combined with soaring expenditure to push Russia’s federal budget to a deficit of 1.76 trillion roubles ($24.2 billion) in the first month of the year.

S&P Global Commodity Insights estimates Russia’s fiscal breakeven oil price at $114/b in 2023...

IMHO, that's the key.

Will Russia print money to cover the shortfall?

Perhaps the ruble will end up like the Zimbabwe dollar.

Joe Blogs......... now there is a fantastic compiler and reporter.

Many here have ignorantly attacked him because he is misunderstood as being opposed to Free Republic Dogma. They attack the label and totally disregard or lack the intellect to grasp the reality of his message

Joe Bloggs is the best in the international economic news business

It would seem that the devaluation of the Ruble severely lags the withering of the Russian economy
