And it needs to take into account that battery powered vehicles are much heavier that ICE types and therefore wear out roads quicker. Not to mention the added insurance lability when someone gets hit by one these heavyweights.
As I understand it, Japan gets older cars off the road (and thus supports its domestic industry) by requiring ever more expensive ‘safety tests’ for older vehicles. At some point the test and required repairs are more expensive than the car is worth. Rate of turn-signal blinking not up to factory standards, the car fails.
Since the Feds aren’t in charge of registration, I’d think it would take the states’ cooperation to refuse registration. Of course the Feds have been known to get states’ compliance by threatening to withhold Fed highway money. But state legislators might be more afraid of their angry ICE car owners than the Fed’s threats. (If not they should be).
Pushing electric vehicles before a electrical grid can handle it yep it sounds like Biden and stooge crew idea.
