My sister lived in Houston when scores of Hurricane Katrina refugees descended on the city.
Contrary to popular belief, Texans are quite compassionate and helped the bulk of them find jobs, places to live or reunite with family members.
But after more than a month or so, it became clear that a certain element was interested in nothing but free board and meals at the Astrodome. So the city came up with a bright idea-- one way airline tickets to the destination of their choice. The Astrodome was cleared out within a matter of days. She said it was the best money the city ever spent.
