Step 1 should be to cut all federal spending on the things that most people aren’t even aware exist, but which are clearly indefensible. In other words, all the “woke” crap the government funds, research grants paid to scammers masquerading as “scientists” (shrimp on treadmills, for example), and pork projects that have no validity at all, among an endless variety other waste. Step 2 then would involve the elimination of entire federal departments that should never have existed, such as Education and a large portion of Energy, for a start. Step 3 would be to dig into every remaining department to decide which expenditures and functions are reasonable and constitutional, and which do not belong in the federal government.

No increase to the debt limit should be agreed to until the dems agree to pursue at least Step 1, with no further discussion of any increase unless and until Steps 2 and 3 have been COMPLETED (at which point further increases should not be needed anyway).

That’s what SHOULD happen, but what actually will happen is probably little or nothing of actual substance.
